Laboratory Learning Program 2024 - Ammonia combustion and NOx emission control (MAE-03)

Research Opportunity Number: MAE-03

Project Title: Ammonia combustion and NOx emission control

Project Summary: Ammonia is a hydrogen carrier because of its high energy density and easy transportation compared to high pressure hydrogen. However, NOx emissions are the greatest concerns of ammonia combustion. The increase of premixing and pressure will dramatically reduce the NOx emissions. However, no experimental data at high pressure is available. This project is to conduct ammonia combustion in a high pressure chamber to measure the NOx reduction as a function of chamber pressure and flame temperature in comparison to modeling. The work will be conducted under the supervision of a research staff and a graduate student.

Student Roles and Responsibilities: The student(s) will perform experimental support, data analysis, computation modeling, literature review, and create a presentation

Additional Considerations: Attendance of at least 4 weeks is required. Student will need university EHS lab safety training before entering the lab. After entering the lab, lab safety and experimental safety training will be required.
