Laboratory Learning Program 2024 - Electrified non-equilibrium ammonia synthesis (MAE-06)

Research Opportunity Number: MAE-06

Project Title: Electrified non-equilibrium ammonia synthesis

Project Summary: Green ammonia synthesis is important to reduce CO2 emissions and enable distributed chemical synthesis using renewable electricity. This project will use pulsed electrical heating or plasma discharge to conduct ammonia synthesis from N2 and H2 in a flow reactor. The chemical species in ammonia synthesis will be measured by using advanced laser diagnostics and gas chromatograph sampling. The work will be supervised by a research staff member.

Student Roles and Responsibilities: The student(s) will perform experimental support, data analysis, computation modeling, literature review, and create a presentation

Additional Considerations:  Participation of at least 4 weeks is required. Student will need university EHS lab safety training before entering the lab. After entering the lab, lab safety and experimental safety training will be required.
