Laboratory Learning Program 2024 - NMR data analysis to identify metabolic inflammatory markers (CHE-04)

Research Opportunity Number: CHE-04

Project Title: NMR data analysis to identify metabolic inflammatory markers

Project Summary: A large quantity of previously acquired metabolic NMR data is ready for detailed targeted analysis using recently developed sophisticated software, such as STOCSY and CRAFT. The purpose of this analysis will be to identify specific markers of inflammation with focus on specific lipoprotein components (GlycA and GlycB) and phospho-lipoproteins (SPC). Additional analysis of lipid components will also be part of the project.

Student Roles and Responsibilities: Study relevant literature, be ready for regular discussions of the material, develop good understanding and practical knowledge of the required in-house software tools, be proficient using Excel and other basic computer software for preparation of presentations and a manuscript. Be diligent to do the analysis, develop and share his/her own ideas, be creative, don't hesitate to ask questions.

Additional Considerations: Weekdays 4 hours is expected to be spent in Frick Chemistry Laboratory conducting focused work on the project, join periodical group meetings, communicate with the supervisor. Skipping a few days on occasion will be acceptable for justified personal reason (to be agreed in advance).
