Research Opportunity Number: ECE-03
Project Title: Imaging Airflow
Project Summary: Stars twinkle because their light rays get deflected randomly through the atmosphere. In a kind of reverse engineering, we can use this flickering as a measure of air turbulence. Here, we will create a lab version, using a background of lights to image heat and air flow over different objects.
Student Roles and Responsibilities: Experimental setup, data collection and analysis. Generating airflow, e.g. with a hair dryer or humidifier, illuminating it with white light, and taking video using an ordinary camera.
Additional Considerations: This project will involve working with a flow source, light and a camera.
