Research Opportunity Number: ECE-01
Project Title: Mid-Infrared Photonics Research
Project Summary: Our research group works on materials and devices especially for the mid-infrared wavelength range, which is useful for environmental and chemical sensing amongst other applications. This summer research project concerns the measurement of reflection, transmission, and absorption of a range of engineered meta-surfaces for the mid-infrared.
Student Roles and Responsibilities: Taking measurements of samples and collecting, managing, and evaluating data. Students’ tasks will involve taking hands-on measurements in an optical lab; operating a spectrometer and opto-electronic equipment; standing at an optical table for extended amounts of time; modeling of structures on a computer, and data collection and evaluation using a computer.
Additional Considerations: Materials and equipment used during this project include semiconductors, spectrometers and computers.
